Though Bhutan's environment is in good shape but the increasing expectation of the rapid development in the country is taking its toll. Moreover the ever increasing global warming is showing its devastating results in the climatic pattern of the country. The glaciers are retreating at an alarming rate thus filling the glacial lakes in the mountains of Bhutan, some of which are on the verge of bursting. This could cause a lot of damage as witnessed in the 1994 lake outburst in Lunana region, which claimed human lives and caused economic damages of the people downstream.
