WWF to support livelihoods projects in BhutanWWF has signed agreements with the Royal Government of Bhutan to support two projects in the country.
Under the first project aimed at reducing fuelwood consumption, around US$28,000 worth of electric cookers will be installed in seven "dekha mess" of the Royal Bhutan Police. The electric cookers will replace the existing wood stoves used in the Royal Bhutan Police kitchens.
The second project, known as Mushroom Community Development, will be implemented by the National Mushroom Center in Semtokha. The project activities include procurement of training equipment, training and demonstration to farmers on sustainable harvesting of Matsutake, formation of a mushroom growers group, and distribution of mycorrhized seedlings to the growers. The estimated budget for the project is about US$38,500.
The project agreements were signed between the WWF Bhutan country representative and the Director General of the Department of Aid and Debt Management.
