WWF Bhutan is pleased to announce that we are looking for a school in 10 new Dzongkhags to launch one of our Young Bhutanese Birders (YBB) clubs. Young Bhutanese Birders is a youth bird-watching program that was started by WWF Bhutan in 2016. This program aims to connect young Bhutanese children to nature through bird-watching. Please take a look at our Factsheet which is available for download for your kind information.

WWF Bhutan has launched 8 YBB clubs thus far - 4 in Thimphu, 1 in Wangduephodrang, 1 in Sarpang, 1 in Zhemgang, and 1 in Pema Gatshel, covering 5 Dzongkhags.  For the next 2 years, WWF Bhutan is looking at launching at least one YBB club in the remaining 15 Dzongkhags so that the Program achieves nation-wide coverage by 2020.

We have recently received applications from schools in Paro, Punakha, Tsirang, Trashigang, and Trashiyangtse and are calling for applications from schools ONLY in Gasa, Haa, Chukha, Samtse, Samdrup Jongkhar, Lhuntse, Bumthang, Trongsa, Mongar, Dagana.

Interested schools in these 10 Dzongkhags must apply by sending a completed Application Form by 15 May, 2019. Please download the Form from this page. A selection committee will use our newly developed Selection Criteria to assess the application. Please also find the document on this page for your reference.

We are selecting one school, from each new Dzongkhag, that weighs positively on our selection criteria to receive either the full-funded package or partial-funded package. Full-funding includes 5 birding binoculars, 10 field guides, a one-time seed-fund donation that ranges between Nu. 15,000 – Nu. 30,000, and copies of our Guidebook for Basic Bird-watching. Partial-funding includes 2 binoculars, 5 field guides, and copies of our Guidebook for Basic Bird-watching.

Kindly note that schools that are not selected will receive copies of our Guidebook and the YBB Operational manual as an encouragement to start a YBB club on their own before applying for the next round of funding.
We urge you to send your applications on time as we plan to make the final selection by the end of May in order be able to visit the schools in June for the club launches. Thank you for your support and we look forward to bringing YBB to your Dzongkhag.
