What
the previous volunteers had to say
I love to travel and experience a world that is different than my own.
I have traveled extensively throughout Asia and Latin America. For the
past 20 years I have worked for the National Park Service at several US
national parks. For a long time I have wanted to use my skills helping
conservation efforts elsewhere in the world.
Bhutan Experience: working for WWF Bhutan has been one of the best experiences
in my life!. I came to help one of Bhutan's national parks, Bomdeling
Wildlife Sanctuary, with developing a visitor-information center and exhibits
on the natural and cultural history and conservation efforts. I am by
nature a hard-worker. Here, I have worked harder than ever before. Yet,
I have never enjoyed my work more. I can't imagine a better country than
Bhutan to work abroad in. My only regret is that I have to leave. My experience
here has been deeply rewarding. It has been more than a professional opportunity.
I have grown personally. I love Bhutan, and so will you. The scenery,
and the natural and cultural resources are fantastic. But it is the five-star
hospitality, even in the most simple and remote areas, that stands out.
The Bhutanese people have captured my heart.
Advice: Be flexible and open-minded. Expect some challenging situations,
simple accommodations, and circumstances very different than what you
are use to. Come with the positive and accepting attitude and you will
have the experience of a lifetime. Also, be sure to visit a lot of temples

Two volunteers, Penelope Richards(Penny) and John Weiss
from the Department of Natural Resources & Environment in Victoria,
Australia were here in Bhutan in February,2003, for three months. Penny
helped the office in developing the Communications Strategy and other
environmental educations related works. John, who is a weed specialist,
was placed in the Ministry of Agriculture: National Plants Protection
Centre in Semtokha to help our nationals revewing strategies to combat
some serious weeds such as shochum, in developing a better knowledge of
weed control and related matters.
Two good friends of Bhutan were here with us as volunteers from US. Leigh
and Marilyn Stowells, avid lovers of Takin, the National Animal of Bhutan
spent their three months helping WWF Bhutan in setting up a visitor's
information corner in the Takin enclosure here in Thimphu. They also helped
the communications section in its editing works.
We have had many volunteers lending us their helping hands in many fields.
The volunteers stay for a short duration of time acccording to their work
and some times according to their available time. Most of them come with
a prior experiences in conservation or related fields. If you would like
to volunteer for WWF Bhutan please contact the person below:
