WWF Bhutan announces the Bend the Curve Challenge at Camp RUF

24 December 2018, Darla, Chukha- WWF Bhutan talked about the latest Living Planet Report with over 10 youth participants at the 5thCamp RUF and announced the Bend the Curve Challenge. The Bend the Curve Challenge is a campaign that WWF Bhutan is hosting to encourage Bhutanese youth to advocate a total of 10 simple sustainable actions in their schools and comminities as a movement to bend the curve on the devastating trends highlighted in the 2018 Living Planet Report (LPR).

Camp RUF (Rural-Urban Friendship) is an educational recreation camp that is held annually in a rural setting for school-going youth across Bhutan. It is a ten-day civic education program designed to bring together children from various parts of rural and urban Bhutan in order to bridge differences and learn from each other with bonding, friendship, and love.  At this year’s camp, WWF Bhutan engaged the participants in a half-day session to inform them on the key findings of the Living Planet (LPR) Report 2018 as well as engage them in a series of fun and informative activities to discuss topics from the LPR.

“The Bend the Curve Challenge has been created to galvanize public action to protect and restore global biodiversity and nature”, said Sonam Yangchen, Communications Officer at WWF Bhutan.

“WWF Bhutan believes that Bhutan’s youth is a critical stakeholder in our mission to build a sustainable future. Therefore, we are hoping to promote the Challenge in various schools and youth groups across the country to motivate young Bhutanese children to take sustainable action in their schools and community”, said Dechen Dorji, Country Representative of WWF Bhutan.

WWF Bhutan will recognize the most creative and impactful Bend the Curve Challenge completed by a school by selecting the school as the official school partner for Earth Hour 2019 in Bhutan. Earth Hour 2019 will be observed on 30thMarch.
