Officials from 24 Divisional Forest Office and protected areas under the Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS) are attending a training on SMART Strategic Planning Tool at Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Forestry Research (UWIFoRT)
The SMART tool is a software application that facilitates data collection, storage, communication, and evaluation. It integrates with Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, allowing users to create accurate maps that would support better decision making.
This is expected to improve sustainable forest management through informed decision-making.
The SMART tool has become increasingly important for the Forest Department, playing a vital role in activities ranging from patrolling to collecting evidence of illegal activities.
The SMART Strategic Planning Tool training program that began on March 18 is facilitated by Jampel Lhendup from the Royal Manas National Park and Kinga Norbu from the Forest Management Information Division.
The training program funded through IKI Living Landscape: Securing High Conservation Values in South-Western Bhutan concludes tomorrow.
