Asia's biggest wildlife quiz returns to Bhutan for the second year!
Organized by WWF Bhutan, in partnership with the Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN) and Zhiwaling Group, the Wild Wisdom Quiz (WWQ), also known as Asia’s biggest quiz, is a program created by WWF-India as a platform to promote the understanding of the value of biodiversity with young school children through a fun-filled and interactive learning experience. This year marks the Quiz’s 12th year where it has been organized in multiple countries such as India, Nepal, Bhutan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Colombia, and the UK.
“It is a growing concern that our young Bhutanese children are becoming more and more disconnected with nature,” said Sonam Yangchen, Communications Officer at WWF Bhutan. “The Wild Wisdom Quiz, because of its fun and entertaining format, is an excellent platform to reach out to young minds during their formative years and sensitize them to the brilliance of the natural world. We hope that this exposure will then elevate their environmental consciousness and motivate them to care about conservation.”
Kuenga Palmo from Changzamtog Lower Secondary School, Lhazin Chhoden from Khasadrapchu Lower Secondary School, and Tshewang Zangmo from Khasadrapchu Lower Secondary School were respectively awarded as the first, second, and third place winners in the Middle Secondary level of the Quiz.
Dorji Ngawang Choden from Sersang Primary School, Tenzin Karma Gyembo from Jigme Loser Primary School, and Rigzin Nima from Rinchen Kuenphen Primary School were respectively awarded as the first, second, and third place winners in the Primary level of the Quiz.
Furthermore, the top ten students from the Middle Secondary level of the Quiz, which include the first, second, and third place winners, will attend a winter nature camp being organized by WWF Bhutan in January 2020.
This year the quiz focuses on ‘Exploring our Planet’ and is inspired by ‘Our Planet’, the ground-breaking eight-part nature documentary series streaming on Netflix, narrated by Sir David Attenborough. A collaborative between WWF, Netflix and Silverback Films, the series showcases the planet’s most precious species and fragile habitats as they’ve never been seen before, from the remote Arctic wilderness and mysterious deep oceans to the diverse jungles of South America.
