USD 243,000 was mobilised to support people in recovering from severe storm and flood impacts in Viet Nam

Each natural disaster passes, leaving us with a strong reminder: humanity and nature have never been separate.

In recent months, a series of consecutive storms and floods, characterised by intense strength and prolonged heavy rainfall, have caused severe damage in many provinces across the country. The tragic loss of lives and property has plunged thousands of households into very difficult circumstances.

In response to this situation, WWF mobilised resources from the international community and offices across its global network to share the burden and support affected communities in Viet Nam’s hardest-hit areas. The total funding for this emergency assistance reached USD 243,000, contributed by WWF International, WWF-Finland, WWF-Switzerland, the Forest Rangers Fund, and the collective donations of WWF-Viet Nam staff nationwide. This support signifies not only financial aid but also compassion, solidarity, and the strong spirit of unity throughout the WWF network.

Earlier, in October, WWF had already provided USD 80,000 to the Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership to assist communities in recovering from the impacts of Typhoons Bualoi and Matmo.

The remaining funds were allocated to provinces most affected by the recent storms and floods, including Ha Tinh, Cao Bang, Hue, Da Nang, Dak Lak, Quang Tri, and Lam Dong. These relief funds have been utilised to meet people’s most urgent needs, such as cash aid for recovery, repairs, and reconstruction of damaged homes, medical support for the injured, and the distribution of food supplies to vulnerable households.

Although these contributions are modest compared to the widespread losses people are facing, we hope that this small support can help affected families gradually recover, overcome their hardships, and stabilise their lives.

The entire implementation process has been executed through close collaboration among WWF-Viet Nam, the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Viet Nam Fatherland Front, the Red Cross at all levels, and local authorities, ensuring that all assistance is allocated openly, transparently, to the correct beneficiaries, and based on genuine needs.

With over 30 years of partnership with the Government of Viet Nam in conservation and sustainable development, WWF-Viet Nam remains deeply connected to local communities, working to strengthen their adaptive capacity and resilience in the face of increasingly severe impacts from climate change and natural disasters.
