Khai Nam Group and WWF-Viet Nam form a strategic partnership with Tay Ninh farmers to expand the floating rice growing area
Collaborating to restore the nature-based farming models, improve livelihoods, and contribute to protecting the Mekong Delta ecosystem.
AMANA Floating Rice Company, a member of Khai Nam Group, officially signed a production and consumption contract of floating rice in 2025 with farmers in Tan Hung and Vinh Chau communes, members of the Floating Rice Service Cooperative on July 18, 2025. This activity is an important part of the project "Climate Resilience by Nature (CRxN Mekong)” implemented by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Viet Nam). The expansion of the cultivated area to 112 hectares marks a strong step forward, not only ensuring stable output for farmers, but also bringing Vietnamese natural agricultural products to the European market.
The event was attended by representatives of WWF-Viet Nam, Lang Sen Wetland Reserve, the People's Committees of Vinh Chau and Tan Hung Communes, Khai Nam Group, Orient Foods Wholesale Company, and farmers. This achievement builds on the success of the 2024 crop, when value-added products such as noodles and pho made from floating rice of Khai Nam group successfully entering the German market and Longdan - the largest Vietnamese supermarket chain in the UK.
Leveraging the community’s economy
The expansion to 96 hectares in Vinh Chau and 16 hectares in Tan Hung not only helps increase production scale but also their confidence. With a stable price of 15.000 VND/kg, Khai Nam has helped farmers feel secure in their investment, without worrying about market fluctuations.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Floating Rice Service Cooperative, shared: "Since partnering with Khai Nam, we have not only been guaranteed output at good prices but also been guided on chemical-free and fertilizer-free farming techniques. Farmers have both a stable income and pride in producing clean products right in their homeland."
This partnership model is creating a sustainable agricultural value chain, transforming the rural economy from raw, low-value production to deeply processed, branded products that meet the strict standards of the international markets.
Contributing to the recovery of the Mekong River Basin
Floating rice is not only a traditional rice variety but also an important part of the Mekong Delta’s natural cycle. The restoration and expansion of this farming model brings enormous and multi-layered benefits to the ecosystem.
During each flood season, the rice fields not only act as a giant "natural reservoirs", retaining floodwater to easedownstream pressure and replenish groundwater, but also receive a large amount of fertile alluvium. This alluvium naturally enriches the soil, helping farmers reduce and eventually eliminate their dependence on chemical fertilizers. As a result, a healthy wetland is created, turning the floating rice fields into ideal habitats and breeding grounds for countless aquatic and waterfowl species, contributing positively to the restoration of the area's degraded biodiversity.
Mr. Huynh Quoc Tinh, Agriculture and Food System Lead, WWF-Viet Nam, said: "The floating rice production linkage model of Khai Nam Group is a vivid demonstration that "nature-based" solutions can simultaneously solve many challenges: improving farmers' livelihoods and resilience, while contributing to biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation. We believe that this is the future of responsible agriculture. WWF-Viet Nam is ready to support pioneering businesses like Khai Nam to replicate this model in the floodplains of the Mekong Delta."
Vision and commitment
Mr. Truong Linh An, General Director of Khai Nam Group, affirmed: "Success in the European market has proved that international consumers increasingly favor stories associated with environmentally friendly products. Floating rice is more than a crop, but also a symbol of the agricultural culture of "harmony with nature". We are committed to continuing to invest, expand and bring Vietnamese specialty rice further on the world culinary map."
The signing event not only ensures a bumper crop for Tay Ninh farmers but also opens a new chapter for sustainable agriculture, where economic value, social benefits and environmental responsibility are harmoniously combined.
