WWF joins international partners in supporting Vietnamese communities affected by Typhoons Bualoi and Matmo

Ha Noi, October 28, the Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) organised a ceremony to acknowledge the international community's support for Vietnamese people affected by Typhoons Bualoi and Matmo.

The event was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep and Pauline Tamesis, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Viet Nam, and representatives from embassies, UN agencies, and international organizations participated. Participants shared efforts to mobilise resources in support of affected communities and reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation with Viet Nam in disaster prevention and risk management.

Responding to the call from the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, WWF-Viet Nam contributed USD 80,000 to provide emergency assistance to people affected by the storms. The support has been used to deliver essential supplies to help local communities — including ethnic minority households — recover and rebuild their lives after the disasters.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep expressed his gratitude for the valuable assistance provided by the international community and shared the Government’s direction for disaster prevention and control in the coming time. He called on partners to continue supporting localities in developing community-based disaster risk management plans, strengthening local disaster response teams, restoring public infrastructure, improving early warning systems, and enhancing international cooperation in disaster management. The Deputy Minister also presented tokens of appreciation from the Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership to embassies and international organizations that contributed to relief efforts for storm-affected communities in Viet Nam.

With over 30 years of partnership with the Government of Viet Nam in conservation and sustainable development, WWF-Viet Nam remains committed to supporting local communities to strengthen their resilience and recovery in the face of increasingly severe impacts of climate change and natural disasters.
