Sali’s revival: Nature-based solutions revive a drying spring source
In a grassy clearing on a mountainside of towering blue pines, more than 8,000 feet above sea level, orange and yellow marigolds bloom beside a damp wooden chest.
The marigolds keep insects away from the closed blue pine chest, which is brimming with cold, clear water. Submerged in the water, over a layer of stones, are bamboo culms filled with coal, gravel, and river pebbles – a natural filtration system for the spring water emerging through the soft, dark soil of the marsh.
