WORLD WATER DAY
On the morning of March 21, the National Launch Ceremony for World Water Day, World Meteorological Day, and Earth Hour 2026 took place. The event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in collaboration with UNICEF, with the companionship of WWF-Viet Nam and other partners.
Viet Nam is a land shaped by rivers. Our vibrant rice civilisations were born along great waterways. From ancient rituals praying for rain and to ceremonies of carrying water to bless the harvest, water has always been tied to life and the natural cycles of the Earth. Early spring is often seen as a time for new beginnings, yet sometimes the most sustainable beginning is simply returning to our roots: living in harmony with nature, cherishing and protecting the fresh water that Mother Earth provides.
In this spirit, on the morning of March 21, the National Launch Ceremony for World Water Day, World Meteorological Day, and Earth Hour 2026 took place. The event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in collaboration with UNICEF, with the companionship of WWF-Viet Nam and other partners.
WWF is partnering with Coca‑Cola, Heineken, SDC, and Macy’s Inc. to promote water-efficient and circular practices in the textile and aquaculture industries. We’re also implementing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) such as protecting upstream forests, restoring wetlands and reducing surface water pollution. These efforts help replenish tens of billions of liters of water each year in priority river basins like the Red, Dong Nai, and Mekong, improving water quality and increasing access to clean water for downstream communities.
As climate change brings more severe drought, salinity intrusion, and unpredictable floods, clean water becomes an increasingly strategic resource. Saving water and using it sustainably is no longer just a “good idea” but an absolute must.
In celebration of World Water Day and the upcoming Earth Hour campaign, let’s:
- Save water in our daily lives
- Protect the rivers and streams around us
- Safeguard green spaces and restore our forests
- Care for and preserve our natural resources
